On a quiet block in Brooklyn’s South Slope neighborhood, a two-family home is shaping up at 261a 19th Street. The rehab/addition is being developed by Maria Savina and Denis Saklakov’s North American Homes who picked up the 15-foot-wide lot in 2016 for $1.2 million. The site is midway between Fifth and Sixth avenues, not far from the Prospect Avenue R-train station and a short walk to Prospect Park and Greenwood Cemetery.
The 3,108-square-foot building will have a ground-level one-bed unit with access to a landscaped backyard. Above is a four-bedroom unit with an open kitchen, living and dining area on the first floor, three bedrooms on the second floor and a fourth bedroom and two terraces on the third.

Renderings and drawings show the homes will have wood floors, crown molding, and other ornate details. The website marketing the property says the building will be a “green home” and will have solar panels and natural, wild-life friendly materials used throughout. A new HVAC and plumbing system is also being installed.
While the website says completion is expected for fall 2017, a recent site visit shows work is still well underway. When finished, the building will sport a new contemporary exterior with a metal awning, flower boxes, and wood-clad top floor. Prior to construction, the building stood two floors high (plus the cellar) and was clad in a 2016-installed brick facade. Before that, the building was covered in peach and pink stonework (yuck). For this latest renovation, New Jersey-based Schneider Associates is listed as the architect of record on building permits.
