In a city where many new condominiums launch sales while construction is still in progress, prospective residents can be forced to make huge deposits years in advance and buy a property sight unseen. However, developer Ceruzzi Properties waited until construction was nearly complete on The Centrale, a soaring new tower in the middle of Midtown, to launch sales, allowing buyers to see the product and move in quickly. Construction topped out last fall, and occupancy is estimated to begin this summer.

The tower designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli beautifully combines Art Deco inspiration with contemporary elements. Its reflective glass façade is accented with terra cotta chevrons, and a series of crystalline switchbacks from the base to the sky create an eye-catching rhythm of angled reflections. The tower soars 800 feet and 71 stories high, but a 400-ton mass damper will mitigate the building’s sway for residents' comfort.

The luxury and privacy of The Centrale is evident upon arrival, where residents have access to a dramatic port-cochere with direct, discreet access to a Champalimaud-designed lobby. Additional indoor amenities include a private dining room, Great Room, club lounge, conference room, and wellness suite with Wright-Fit-designed fitness center, 75’ lap pool, sauna/steam room, and spa treatment rooms. Outdoors, a Club Terrace with wet bar and a pet-friendly Garden Terrace offer a peaceful escape from the bustle of the city.

The level of luxury in the apartments and amenities would be right at home on Billionaires’ Row, but The Centrale is on a quiet stretch of East 50th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues. It is less than one block from the famed Waldorf Astoria, and a short walk from Grand Central Terminal, Fifth Avenue shopping, and top restaurants like Smith and Wollensky.
An accepted offering plan lists a whopping $578 million sellout, and The Centrale looks on track to meet it: One-bedrooms start at $1.85 million, two-bedrooms start at $2.7 million, and a three-bedroom is listed for $4.9 million. A full-floor, four-bedroom Tower residence is also listed for $10.75 million.
