During the same week that two Upper East Side apartments tied for the top sale, an apartment at 737 Park Avenue, a prewar condo conversion, had the top contract. Apartment #20A has been on and off the market since 2014, when it was listed for $19,695,000 (h/t Olshan Realty market report), and entered contract with an asking price of $13,750,000, or 30.2% below the initial ask. The building is located in the heart of the Upper East Side Historic District, but the apartment features such modern luxuries as Miele appliances in the kitchen and a primary suite with walk-in closets and a seven-fixture bath.
The Park Avenue condo was trailed closely by a high-floor home at the Jean Nouvel-designed 53W53, which entered contract with a $13,245,000 asking price. The contract comes about a month after Alex Blavatnik's $25,000,000 purchase, and at a time when apartments facing Central Park rank among the city's highest-priced sales.
