When former pharmaceutical executive and United States Ambassador to Belgium Bruce Gelb's apartment at 1060 Fifth Avenue closed for $17,500,000 last week, it was immediately apparent that it closed for $47,500,000 below the original ask when it was first listed in April 2016. However, a review of the week's sales shows that the dramatically reduced closing price was nevertheless good enough for the highest-priced sale for the last full week of October 2022.
Ambassador Gelb is not the only luminary with a home among the top sales this week. About a mile from 1060 Fifth Avenue, Pantzer Properties co-CEO Jason Pantzer takes his place in "tower of power" 740 Park Avenue with a massive five-bedroom home that closed for $12,500,000 in the third-highest price of the week. When the apartment entered contract in July 2022, the listing noted that the home had not been listed in over 60 years. The seller is listed in public records as the Charles H. Dyson and Jane K. Dyson Rev. Trust.

Downtown, Rupert Murdoch's full-floor home at One Madison tied for the third-highest sale when it closed for $12,500,000 less than a month after entering contract with an asking price of $16,000,000. The buyer was listed only as Dakotaflatiron LLC. Mr. Murdoch's triplex penthouse remains on the market for $58,000,000, and there is also an option to rent it for $160,000/month.

However, both the buyer and seller of the second-highest sale conducted the transaction behind trusts and LLCs. A full-floor home at 150 Wooster Street, a new construction condo with loft-like interiors, closed for $16,675,000 in the highest downtown deal of the past week.
