For all the slick new condo construction taking place throughout Bedford-Stuyvesant, the historic brownstones that brought the borough to prominence cannot be overlooked. That is evident at 5 Arlington Place, a four-story, 3,600-square-foot townhouse that just sold for $3.6 million. In doing so, it set a new record as the neighborhood's most expensive townhouse sale. Nadine Adamson and Kelsey Hall of Brown Harris Stevens represented the seller in the transaction, which took place two years after the previous record-holder at 1 Verona Place.

5 Arlington Place features a five-bedroom upper triplex and one bedroom garden apartment. The townhouse dates back to 1887 and was designed by George P. Chappell, an especially prolific 19th-century architect. More than 130 years later, it is located on a nearly traffic-free street in the Bedford Historic District. However, it is a short walk from the Nostrand Avenue Metro North stop, the Franklin Avenue subway stop, and the restaurants and shops of Fulton Street.

Following a top-to-bottom restoration, the townhouse features period stained glass, a restored and rebuilt central staircase, plasterwork, beams, doors, window casings, and fireplace mantles.
