Bjarke Ingels Is Bringing a Curved Apartment Complex to Harlem

Architecture wunderkind Bjarke Ingels is bringing an 11-story residential building to East Harlem. To be located at 146 East 126th Street, the BIG design is a T formation that cantilevers over the Gotham Plaza retail center on 125th Street.

In typical Ingels style, the building forgoes a conventional facade and takes on an undulating pattern marked by bricks—the material choice a nod to surrounding buildings.

The residence will host 233 residential units–66 studios, 145 one-bedrooms, and 22 two-bedrooms. 47 units will be priced below market rate.

The project is being developed by Extell along with the Blumenfeld Group.
