Another high-rise has topped off in the ever-growing and ever-rising Hudson Yards area. This tower, designed by BKSK Architects soars 345-feet tall at 509 West 38th Street, adjacent to the soon-to-be Hudson Park Boulevard. The 158,000-square-foot tower boasts an exterior clad in a welcoming mix of textured brown brick, steel accents and casement windows that distinguishes itself from the glass facades growing prevalent in the area. Investment firm Imperial Companies is the developer. In collaboration with BKSK, Ismael Levya is the architect of record and layout designer, and Ken Fulk is overseeing interior design. Monadnock Construction is managing construction.

The previous building at the site stood just four stories tall and hosted Legacy Recording Studios. After Twining Properties bought the property for $17.57 million, plans were made to transform the building into a mixed-use residential tower. The new base will host 13,739 square feet of retail space. Floors three through five will host 30,000 square feet of community space, 20,000 of which has already been leased by the non-profit Fencer’s Club. The rest of the building will be designated for the residential rental units. In total, there will be 225 residences, mostly studios and one-bedrooms. The developers have reserved 46 units as affordable housing units, for which they were awarded $104 million in financing and $5.9 million in tax credits. Residences will average 786 square feet each.
Perks at the building will not fall short. At the base of the building will sit a restaurant, decorated by the building’s exposed steel, brick spandrels, and large multi-pane windows. Inside, the tower will host a screening room, a party room, a fitness center, laundry facilities, and bike storage. Atop the building will sit a lovely outdoor roof garden, which will offer sweeping views of the city. Located in the booming Hudson Yards area, the tower will ultimately offer residents a home in one of New York's most exciting neighborhoods.
