Queens-based architect Raymond Chan is one step closer to seeing his Long Island City project at 42-10 27th Street come to fruition. Excavation work recently began at the site, which previously hosted a low-slung retail building. The developers, the NY Lions Group purchased the property in 2005, along with an adjacent lot for $8 million. The plan is to build an 18-story, 110-unit mixed-use residential tower that is slated for completion in late 2017. Dubbed One Queens Plaza, the tower will encompass 90,000 square feet total and feature 8,645 square feet of retail space along its lower levels.
The exterior of the building will be clad in a sleek façade of glass and metal panels. The effect, as Raymond Chan puts it, will result in a “crisp and spatially clean contemporary style.” Large, floor-to-ceiling windows will also offer terrific views of the Midtown Manhattan skyline.
Inside, the building will provide a resident recreation area, private storage, bike parking, an elevator, and a 55-car parking garage. Located in the Queens Plaza section of Long Island City, the tower will be just a single stop from Midtown along the N and R lines. Also worth mentioning are Long Island City's many bars, restaurants, shops, and museums, all just a short walk away from the building.
