Falling in line with Jersey City’s recent development boom, a new tower is rising at the end of 14th Street in Newport City. In case you couldn't tell, the Ellipse’s name is derived from its elliptical shape. The 43-story rental tower is being designed by HLW who is serving as the executive architect and Arquitectonica who is responsible for its exterior. The tower will ultimately rise 444.5 feet to its apex and will be a refreshing addition to Jersey City rising skyline. The tower's developer is the LeFrak Organization and there will be 376 residences across 592,800 square feet of floor area.

The project broke ground last December, and its superstructure is now climbing rapidly The Ellipse must take heed of new precautions to keep its residents and the building protected from flooding. Sitting on a peninsula that juts into the Hudson River, the LeFrak Organization had to follow many new post-Sandy regulations. For instance, they had to raise the first floor of the tower from 10.6 feet above sea level to 13 – which translated to trucking 50,000 tons of dirt to the site. The feat raised the price of the development 2%, according to LeFrak.
The Ellipse is rising in an ovular shape, featuring a wave-like design.
HLW is also designing the common areas and rental units of the Ellipse. The building will host a retail component, a 230-parking space garage, and a cultural/educational center. Completion is targeted for 2017.
The Ellipse sits on a peninsula that juts into the Hudson River.
