A new hotel designed by Garrison Architects is taking shape at 626 Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg. The five-story building will hold the Driggs Pod Hotel, bringing 255 new affordably-priced hotel rooms to the area. The building comprises 100,000 square feet, and includes nearly 13,000 square feet of new retail space.
The firm designed the five-story building as a modular system, and is being constructed using prefabricated components. According to Garrison Architects, two hotel rooms and a corridor are joined together to create 10x30-foot modules, and this type of construction reduces both construction time and the possibility of errors.

The Driggs Pod Hotel will be the first of its kind in Brooklyn, but has other New York locations in Midtown East and Murray Hill, and another new location is rising at 42nd Street and Ninth Avenue in Midtown. Designed as a new generation of budget hotels, the hotels feature room sizes of around 100 square feet, and employs efficient and functional use of space and storage, and maximizes communal areas and amenities, such as planted courtyards, a roof garden, and restaurants and bars.
Developers CB Developers, Waterbridge Capital, and Ironstate Development purchased the property in April 2013, which previously was a vacant lot. The hotel will host a first floor eatery, an interior courtyard, a rooftop terrace, and an 83-car parking garage.
