By the time the COVID-19 crisis is over and restrictions are lifted, New Yorkers will undoubtedly be itching to go out again and make the most of the parties, shows, charity banquets, weddings, and other events that make city life so exciting. One of the largest and most exciting event spaces on the horizon is The Glasshouse, which is starting to live up to its name at this point in the construction process. A recent site visit saw glass panels going up on the nearly completed project at 640-660 Twelfth Avenue.
The Glasshouse event space will be situated on the sixth floor of the expanded building to look out on panoramic Hudson River and skyline views. It will occupy 75,000 square feet of interior space as well as multiple outdoor terraces over 1,500 square feet each. Additional indoor features will include 20’-40’ ceilings, two commercial kitchens, and soundproof partitions. Built-in production infrastructure, two commercial kitchens, and a staff of event planners and staffers will allow for flawless event execution. And from the caterers to the linens, Glasshouse is known for partnering with top vendors.

“The whole industry has been waiting for this place for years” - Perry Brocco, General Manager, Glasshouse

Glasshouse’s Chelsea outpost occupies twin event spaces on the 14th and 21st floors of Chelsea Arts Tower, which was, for a time, the tallest building in Chelsea. Its spectacular views of the Hudson River and the New York City skyline remain a powerful draw, and the past twelve years have seen it host Fashion Week shows, Justin Bieber’s New Year’s party, and Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Lindsay Lohan.
The new location is rising on the corner of West 49th Street, just north of The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, across from Pier 88 at Hudson River Park, and west of a new Lexus dealership on Eleventh Avenue. The area is also home to a residential building boomlet, and Waterline Square opened to great aplomb in February.
