The Streit’s Matzo Factory, a family-owned business which had been providing the Lower East Side’s Jewish community with Passover bread for 90 years, was bought out last year for $30.5 million and their long-time home will soon be transformed into luxury condos. The 50,000 square-foot brick building at 148-154 Rivington Street will be demolished to its first floor and be re-imagined into a mixed-use glass condominium with 45 units. Cogswell Lee Development is the developer and Gluck+ is serving as the architect.
After the five upper floors are removed, the remaining ground floor (about 13,000 square feet) will be redesigned as retail space. The phase 1 alteration plans were filed and approved late last year. Meanwhile, sales for the condos began this past June. One-bedrooms start from $1.030 million, two-bedrooms start from $1.74 million, and three-bedrooms start from $2.75 million.
The residences at 150 Rivington Street will be designed by Gluck+ Architects and will include one, two, and three-bedroom units. Four duplex penthouses will occupy the top floors, followed by a landscaped roof terrace. Residences feature custom oak flooring, Italian-made Rimadesio translucent sliding doors, and floor-to-ceiling windows providing natural light and dynamic city views.
Kitchens boast custom Italian cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, and high-end appliances. Bathrooms feature marble walls and tiles, Brooklyn’s Watermark fixtures, and Gluck+ designed ash wood vanities.
The building’s amenities package includes a 24-hour attended lobby adorned with Streit’s memorabilia, smart home technology, rooftop yoga sun deck, fitness center, bike storage, and individual resident storage for purchase.
