This June, the foundation work was laid for TF Cornerstone’s west side mega-development at 606 West 57th Street and now, the building is officially beginning to rise. The unnamed project is being designed by Arquitectonica and will be among the largest apartment buildings in the city, standing 450 feet tall and 1.2 million square feet.

The site is between Eleventh Avenue and the West Side Highway and will have 42 floors and 1,028 rental units; 206 will be marketed as affordable units for residents earning 60% of the area’s median income. All tenants will have access to the building’s impressive suite of amenities which will include an attended lobby, a basketball court, fitness center, yoga studio, screening room, lounge, laundry facility, bike storage, multiple outdoor terraces, and dog grooming services.
The development will also include a public pre-kindergarten school, a 400-car parking garage, and 38,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space. It is replacing a collection of small garages and a car dealership on a site owned by Alabama-based Four Plus Corp. This stretch of Eleventh Avenue has actually come to be known as Autobahn Alley, due to the large number of car dealerships in the area. It’s possible that another dealership might end up occupying the building’s ground-floor.
This project is just one of many contributing to the growth and transformation of the northwest corner of Hell’s Kitchen. Other developments include a new 40-story Alvaro Siza-designed condominium set to rise on the southeast corner of the block at 611 West 56th Street; and right across the street at 625 West 57th Street the Durst Organization is developing VIA 57 West, a Bjarke Ingels-designed residential tetrahedron. Completion for TFC’s tower is slated for 2018.
