Vornado Realty Trust is now celebrating a milestone for its development at 220 Central Park South, with another soon to come. The development’s shorter wing fronting CPS, dubbed the Villas, has now officially topped off at 14 stories tall. Not to be outdone, the taller adjacent tower situated along West 58th Street is nearing its pinnacle as well, set to top out at 69 stories. (Last we checked in at the site in August, the tower was two-thirds of its way into its climb.)
As 6sqft recently reported, the views from 220 Central Park South will be truly unrivaled. A group of dedicated and risk-taking urban explorers, including vic.invades and tombruise_, scaled the in-progress tower and photographed the sweeping vistas, which include Central Park and far beyond.

Set to top out at 950 feet tall, rumor has it that the taller tower of the development will debut the city’s most expensive condominium. The $250 million, four-floor unit will combine a duplex and three separate residences on the two floors above. According to 6sqft, billionaire hedge funder Ken Griffin has staked a claim on the 23,000-square-foot residence. He’s not the only one with eyes on the building; British rockstar Sting and his wife Trudie Styler are allegedly in negotiation for a condo as well.
Designed by Robert A.M. Stern, both buildings are clad in a limestone façade and together will host 118 residences upon completion next year. Vornado is anticipating a total sellout of $3.17 billion. Inside, residences will have access to an impressive slew of amenities. Similar in both shape and luxury to Robert A.M. Stern’s other limestone development at 15 Central Park West, the building will include a motor court, a library, a screening room, wine cellars, a fitness center, and a private club-style dining room.
Just behind the development, Extell’s Central Park Tower is underway and due for completion in 2019. The relatively low height of the Villas will allow for residences inside this 131-story tower to capture views of Central Park. Situated in Midtown West, the condos will join 554 units currently for sale in the neighborhood that have a median price of $2.095 million, or $1,942 per square foot. The average closing price for a condo in the neighborhood this November was $1,635 per square foot, down from last November’s average closing price of $1,751 per square foot.
