One57, the tower largely considered the harbinger of Billionaires' Row, found itself back on top last week with a three-bedroom condo that closed for $19,300,000. This was the past week's highest sale by a comfortable margin - the second-highest, located at the nearby 220 Central Park South, closed for $14,800,875 - but records indicate that this was 22.2% below the last asking price of $24,800,000. Moreover, The Real Deal notes that the seller (identified only through an LLC, as was the buyer) took a loss on the condo, having purchased it for $24,594,238 in 2015.

The unidentified seller at One57 was not the only one to take a loss on their Midtown West condominium: A short distance away, investment banker Ken Moelis sold his apartment at The Plaza for $10,750,000. While that was good enough for the third-highest sale of the past week, the New York Post noted that Mr. Moelis bought it for $11.23 million in 2007.
The top downtown sale and fourth-highest overall took place at 160 Wooster Street, a Soho condominium with only 15 units, including two duplex penthouses with custom staircases and private terraces. One of those penthouses sold for $10,300,000 to a buyer identified only through an LLC; public records list the seller as Lewis Sanders, former chairman and CEO of AllianceBernstein, and his wife Alice Sanders. Records also indicate that in stark contrast to their uptown compatriots, these sellers are making a tidy profit, having bought the apartment for $6,400,000 in 2007.
The top co-op sale and fifth-highest of the past week was a massive five-bedroom spread at 271 Central Park West that sold for $9,300,000. Public records list the buyer as Jay Lefkowitz, a lawyer and Columbia University lecturer who has served in the administrations of Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and his wife, Elena Lefkowitz.
