In the latest news from mega-development Essex Crossing, Delancey Street Associates announced that 180 Broome Street has topped out construction at 26 stories. The commercial podium and residential tower are already evident, as are the floor-to-ceiling windows in the office space. Next to go up are the concrete frames and large windows throughout the tower. Designer Handel Architects cites the trussed structure of the nearby Williamsburg Bridge as an inspiration for the project.

A landscaped public garden at the entrance and 10,000 square feet of grade-level retail space will welcome residents and office workers alike. The office space on floors 2-5 will include high ceilings, bike rooms with showers, outdoor terraces and lobbies, and a triple-height atrium and event space. Marketing of the office space is expected to start later this spring. The 263 rentals will start on the sixth floor, continue to the 26th floor, and comprise 142 market-rate units and 121 affordable units. A full floor will be devoted to amenity space.

In addition to the new office and residential space, 180 Broome Street will host an elevated indoor park known as Broome Street Gardens. At cellar level, it will house part of the Market Line, a bazaar-like marketplace of food, fashion, and culture that will embrace local vendors and open later this spring.
The milestone at 180 Broome Street comes at a time when the first residents are coming to Essex Crossing, and seven of its nine sites are either open or under construction. A 14-screen Regal Cinemas opened two weeks ago in The Essex, which is over 60 percent leased. Fellow rental The Rollins is also open and home to a Target and the East Coast’s largest Trader Joe’s outpost. The condominium at 242 Broome Street is more than 55 percent sold and ready to welcome the International Center of Photography and The Gutter, a bowling entertainment center. 202 Broome Street is under construction, and its 175,000 square feet of office space and 83 luxury condos are expected to be open by 2020. Indeed, the whole Essex Crossing development is expected to be completed in 2024.
