In musical terms, a caesura is a pause in a line of music. In the heart of Brooklyn's, cultural district, anchored by BAM, is Caesura, a 12-story, 123-unit rental developed by Jonathan Rose Companies and finished in 2018. The building holds market-rate, middle-income, and affordable apartments ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, including 34 micro-units among them. Currently, the building is offering a handful of furnished studios priced from $2,557/month up to $2,763/month All prices are net effective, indicating a rental concession of one month.
Caesura’s musically inspired name isn’t the only nod to its location in the heart of Brooklyn’s cultural district. The entry is framed by a sculptural screen designed in collaboration with acclaimed artist Susan Hefuna, Brooklyn-based Situ Fabrication, and building designer Dattner Architects. The building will be home to The Center for Fiction’s new headquarters and rehearsal space for the neighboring Mark Morris Dance Group. Other neighbors include Brooklyn Academy of Music, Theater for a New Audience, and BAM Harvey Theater. The borough’s ultimate performance space, Barclays Center, is a few blocks away, as are the restaurant and transportation options serving it.
Inside the building, micro-units have multipurpose, transforming furniture, and select units have washer/dryers. All apartments feature keyless entry, hardwood floors, large windows, light finishes, and porcelain-tile baths. Kitchens are outfitted with Caesarstone countertops, white cabinetry, and stainless steel, Energy Star GE appliances.
Amenities include the fitness center, lounge and game room, laundry room, and bike room that have become de rigueur for new rental buildings in Brooklyn. However, no other building can yet claim to have Caesura’s signature amenity: Common Goods, a lending library of specialty kitchen items, tools, entertaining needs, and other miscellanea that residents might like to use but don’t have the space or inclination to own. Additional amenities include an eleventh-floor conservatory with a double-height, glass-walled garden and rooftop lounge with indigenous plants, dining and workspaces, outdoor kitchen, and sun deck. These are some of the factors that led to the building’s LEED Gold Certification.
