East Harlem's The Heritage on Central Park: Renovated Rentals with Incentives from $2,595/Month

The rental complex known as The Heritage sits along the edge of Central Park in East Harlem and offers studios and one- to five-bedroom residences with new renovations and great views.

Built in 1975 at the northeast corner of the park, the complex consists of more than 1,000 rental units in two 35-story towers and one midrise building. Recent renovations have upgraded apartment interiors and also the building’s lobbies and hallways. The property is managed by Urban American and current no-fee listings offer incentives including Amazon gift cards up to $500. Net prices for available units show one bedrooms from $2,595/month, two bedroom from $3,125/month, three bedrooms from $3,675/month and four bedrooms from $4,400/month.

Homes have spacious layouts and listing photos show-off the renovations including new flooring throughout with updated kitchens and baths. Kitchens have black granite countertops, custom designed solid wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances; white tiled contemporary bathrooms have new vanities and medicine cabinets. There is ample closet space and utilities are included.

The complex is one of the major landmarks along the boundaries of Central Park and has been known as Schomburg Plaza, named for Puerto Rican writer and activist Arthur Schomburg who eventually settled in Harlem. It was originally part of the Mitchell Lama affordable housing program but was eventually bought-out of it after being sold to Cammeby’s International in 2005 and then later to Urban American. Beyond the apartments, the complex offers residents laundry rooms, a newly landscaped plaza and indoor parking with access to Zipcar. There is 24/7 security and pets are permitted, too. Several subway lines are just a short walk away.
