8 East 62nd Street Location Map

Overview of 8 East 62nd Street

This six story limestone mansion at 8 East 62nd Street was originally constructed in 1903 by John H. Duncan, the architect of Grant's Tomb, in the Beaux Arts style. The approximately 15,000 square foot residence has undergone multiple significant renovations, including a three year top to bottom restoration by renowned architect and designer William T. Georgis that restored what Architectural Digest called its "Gilded Age Splendor." More recent work by Xhema in the early 2010s and Highline Construction through 2024 has added state-of-the-art technology and modern systems while preserving the home's historic character.

The mansion's grand entrance features original malachite mosaic flooring and a sweeping marble staircase with wrought iron and brass balustrades. The second floor parlor level showcases 17 foot ceilings, a Baccarat 32 bulb chandelier, quarter sawn white oak floors in a Parquet de Versailles pattern, and a formal dining room with a rare unobstructed view spanning an entire city block to The Pierre Hotel. The marquetry flooring was inspired by Pavlovsk Palace in St. Petersburg. The third floor is devoted entirely to the primary suite, which includes a custom wood paneled library, two ensuite bathrooms (one with mahogany lacquered millwork and Olympic Grey marble, the other with a Kohler 72 inch soaking tub and Fior Di Bosco marble), and a private stairwell leading to an expansive three room dressing suite with a temperature controlled fur vault.

The upper floors contain four additional bedroom suites, a media room, and a billiards room with walls upholstered in custom Hermès leather. The rooftop terrace, accessible by elevator, features an outdoor kitchen with built in BBQ, a cedar pergola covered dining area, and views of Central Park from both front and rear. The lower level houses a comprehensive spa with a skylit gym, sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool, massage room, and wine cellar with custom oak millwork. Modern amenities include a Crestron control system integrating lighting, audio/visual, and security, upgraded CCTV surveillance, and snow melt heated sidewalks.
