Carter's Review

One of the city's most elegant and distinguished apartment houses, this 15-story building was erected in 1929 and converted to a cooperative in 1947.

The mid-block building has a limestone façade that is highlighted by very ornate and handsome wrought-iron window grills and balconies. The first floor windows are arched and almost double-height and the indented, arched, canopied entrance is surmounted by an oculus window beneath a very graceful balcony.

The building has two Art Deco friezes near the top and a balustraded roofline.

The building has an irregular window pattern near the top and only 18 apartments. It has a doorman and concierge and consistent fenestration and sidewalk landscaping.

It is very close to a major entrance to Central Park and not far from several major museums and art galleries. Cross-town bus service is convenient as are many boutiques and restaurants. The rear of the building has some elaborate "wintergardens," glass-enclosed terraces.

The delicate ironwork, much of it with gilded accents, and fine limestone masonry comprise one of the most refined residential façades in the city.
