The Lyric is a 23 story rental at 255 West 94th Street, completed in 2000 with 285 apartments. It rises above Symphony Space and occupies the Broadway blockfront between West 94th and West 95th Streets, integrating a major performing arts center into a development by The Related Companies. The cultural complex includes the Peter Jay Sharp Theater and Leonard Nimoy Theater.
Costas Kondylis designed the red brick building with numerous corner windows, setbacks, roofline finials, and restrained Art Deco style details. David Rockwell designed the lobby, while Polshek Partnership handled the cultural spaces. The project used air rights above Symphony Space’s 1915 two story building to help fund the center’s renovation; a related 11 unit income restricted development on West 105th Street enabled approximately 40,000 additional square feet at The Lyric.
The apartment mix extends from studios to three bedrooms, with 25 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom plans forming the core of the inventory. Floor-to-ceiling windows and corner exposures shape many layouts, while separate kitchens are common. Some upper floor apartments face west toward the Hudson River, and in-unit laundry occurs in both alcove studio and penthouse configurations.
The smoke free building has a 24 hour doorman, concierge, central air conditioning, garage, fitness center, business center, children’s playroom, and video intercom system. Its rooftop terrace has dining areas and city and river views. The 96th Street station for the 1, 2, and 3 trains is across Broadway.
Related Rentals is the luxury rental arm of Related Companies, a New York City developer founded in 1972 by Stephen Ross. It manages dozens of premium Manhattan apartments, emphasizing innovative amenities and customer-centric service.
