About Dorchester Towers, 155 West 68th Street
A behemoth, white-brick building was designed by S. J. Kessler & Sons and has a 20-story wing on Broadway and a 34-story wing on Amsterdam Avenue. The full-block project extends to 69th Street and has an address of 155 West 68th Street, 181 Amsterdam Avenue and 2001 Broadway.
It was one of the first major residential developments in the area in the wake of the completion of the Lincoln Center for The Performing Arts a few blocks to the south. It was also the first major project in the area for Seymour and Paul Milstein, the developers who went on to building One Lincoln Plaza and 30 Lincoln Plaza, major towers across from the center, a few years later.
The condominium building, which was completed in 1964, has 683 condominium units, making it one of the city's largest individual apartment buildings.
The building has a driveway, an attended garage with elevator access, and a doorman. It has separate mail and package rooms and a central mail chute is on every floor and every floor up to 21 has a laundry room.
The building has a roof deck and a bicycle room.
