Carter’s Review

"One of the few post-war buildings on 79th Street, the 18-story, red-brick building known as The Gloucester at 200 West 79th Street on the southwest corner of Amsterdam Avenue has a spartan design and large bulk that make it highly visible.

The building was erected in 1978 and was converted to a cooperative in 1988. "

Broker & Buyer Comments

This "highly sought-after" post-war co-op offers "impeccable service" with its "attentive" 24-hour doorman staff and live-in super. The "prime Upper West Side location" at 79th and Amsterdam puts residents steps from "everything you could want" including Zabar's, Fairway, and cultural landmarks like Lincoln Center and the Museum of Natural History. Building perks include a "gorgeous roof deck," garage, and renovated lobby, while the "well-managed" property maintains "strict but reasonable" house rules. "Convenience is king" here with multiple transit options and the "best restaurants and shops" just outside your door. A "centrally located gem" that's "one of the best co-ops" for Upper West Side living.

Sales History

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
