Overview of 1000 Park Avenue

1000 Park Avenue is a 13 story, 70 apartment pre-war cooperative in Carnegie Hill dating to 1915. Designed by Emery Roth for Bing & Bing, the building has a neo Gothic brown brick façade ornamented with terra cotta gargoyles, owls, squirrels and human figures. Two figures flanking the Park Avenue entrance are traditionally said to represent developers Leo and Alexander Bing.

Apartment plans preserve Roth’s formal pre-war organization, with broad galleries, separate public and bedroom wings, and substantial living and dining rooms recurring in larger homes. Many residences have ceilings of about 10 feet, oversized windows, hardwood floors and wood burning fireplaces. Larger layouts retain former staff rooms or have incorporated them into expanded service areas, while several south facing homes look over St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

The building has a 24 hour doorman, concierge and live-in resident manager, as well as a fitness center, laundry room, bicycle room and basement storage. Pets and pied-à-terre ownership are permitted, financing is limited to 50 percent, and a 2 percent flip tax applies.

1000 Park Avenue occupies the northwest corner of Park Avenue and East 84th Street. Central Park is two avenues west, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art is at Fifth Avenue and East 82nd Street. Real estate investor Aby Rosen has been a resident.

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
