The Highgate is a 29 story Carnegie Hill rental building developed by Milstein Properties in 1982. Designed by Jarmul & Brizee, its red brick tower occupies much of the Third Avenue blockfront between East 94th and East 95th streets. A freestanding white stone torii frames the entrance marquee, which opens from a landscaped plaza on East 95th Street.
The building contains 253 apartments, with roughly 10 residences on a typical floor. Floor plans favor compact one bedroom layouts with enclosed kitchens, living rooms measuring about 17 to 18 feet long, and substantial closet space. Apartments commonly have central air conditioning, hardwood floors and large windows.
The Highgate has a 24 hour doorman and concierge, a live-in superintendent, common laundry and bicycle storage. A landscaped roof deck, garden and attended garage round out the amenities, and pets are permitted.
The building is one block east of Carnegie Hill’s brownstone streets and near the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed Islamic Cultural Center. The 96th Street station at Lexington Avenue, served by the 4 and 6 trains, is two blocks west, while the Q train stops at 96th Street and Second Avenue to the east.
