239 Central Park West is a Neo-Renaissance apartment building with Italian Gothic elements designed by the acclaimed architectural firm Sugarman & Berger in 1926. The 16 story beige brick building features an elaborate entrance surrounded by lion heads and showcases the firm's signature style, which also graced notable buildings like One Fifth Avenue and 262 Central Park West. The building was converted to a co-op in 1980 and contains 75 apartments, including several duplexes and maisonettes.
Apartments are characterized by classic prewar details, with some featuring wood burning fireplaces, formal dining rooms, high beamed ceilings, and herringbone hardwood floors. Many units offer Central Park views, and layouts range from classic six room configurations to sprawling combination apartments. Notable sales include Jeff Zucker's 16 room duplex on the 11th and 12th floors, which sold for $15.7 million in 2005.
Residents enjoy white glove service with a 24 hour doorman and live-in superintendent. Building amenities include a fitness center, bicycle storage, central laundry facilities, and basement storage units. The pet friendly building permits 50% financing and charges a 2% flip tax to purchasers. Its prime location at 84th Street provides convenient access to Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and excellent transportation with both subway and crosstown bus service.

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.
By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
