Over the past few days, smoke from Canadian wildfires has drifted to North America, creating hazy skies, low visibility, and conditions that have led to New York having some of the worst air quality in the world. City and state officials have issued health advisories, outdoor activities have been canceled, and residents have experienced low visibility and physical symptoms like coughing and itchy eyes.

New Yorkers have dug their masks back out as they troop out to buy air purifiers and new filters for systems they already own. Some, however, have already gone one step further: In the wake of the pandemic and accompanying lockdown, builders and developers began to incorporate and tout features like hospital-caliber air and water filtration, copper handles, and direct elevator access. In addition to offering environmental benefits and easing residents' minds, such features have proven highly profitable, ranking among the highest-priced sales and best-selling buildings.
