Overview of The Acropolis at 21-06 35th Street

The Acropolis, also known as Acropolis Gardens, is a pre-war condop complex at 21-06 35th Street in Astoria's Ditmars/Steinway neighborhood. Designed by Andrew J. Thomas and D. Everett Waid for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and completed in 1923, the five story, 617-unit development consists of U-shaped buildings arranged around landscaped courtyards with central walkways, a garden apartment configuration that was progressive for its era. The complex converted to condop status in 2024.

Apartments span one, two, and three bedroom layouts across the five story buildings. Many feature hardwood floors, high ceilings, and separate kitchens, with north and south exposures common across the complex. Garden and courtyard views are a recurring feature, particularly in first floor units. Renovated apartments often include stainless steel appliances, updated bathrooms, and exposed brick walls, and select units have in-unit washer/dryer.

The building has a live-in super, multiple laundry rooms, and well-maintained common gardens. Policies include unlimited subletting after two years of ownership, along with gifting and co-purchasing. Pets are permitted, and financing is available through approved lenders with a minimum 20% down payment. A special assessment is in effect through June 2026.

The N/W trains at Ditmars Boulevard are one block away. The surrounding area along Ditmars Boulevard and Steinway Street offers a dense concentration of restaurants, cafés, and shops. Socrates Sculpture Park and the Noguchi Museum are both nearby.
