Overview of The Park View at 1200 Fifth Avenue

Designed by Emery Roth and completed in 1928, 1200 Fifth Avenue is a 16 story pre-war condominium on the northeast corner of 101st Street, directly across from Central Park on Museum Mile. Originally developed by Joseph Ravitch as a rental building, it was purchased in 2004 by Joseph Chetrit, Lloyd Goldman, Mann Realty, and Joseph Nakash for approximately $61 million and converted into 63 condominium apartments. The building showcases what architectural historian Steven Ruttenbaum describes as "robust, Baroque classicism," featuring a two story rusticated limestone base with an ornate entrance surround, a curved glass marquee flanked by hanging lanterns, and a lobby with stained glass windows and a fireplace. The conversion included replacing all windows with tilt and turn models while preserving the building's elegant pre-war character.

Apartments feature 9.5 foot beamed ceilings, herringbone hardwood floors, and decorative fireplaces. Windowed kitchens come equipped with high-end appliances including Wolf ranges and ovens, Sub-Zero refrigerators and wine coolers, and Miele dishwashers, while windowed bathrooms feature heated limestone floors and fixtures by Waterworks, Porcher, Kallista, and Toto. Most units include in-unit washers and dryers. Many apartments, particularly those on higher floors and corner units, offer direct Central Park views through oversized windows. The building includes impressive layouts ranging from one bedroom units to sprawling duplex penthouses exceeding 5,000 square feet, with some penthouses featuring over 2,000 square feet of private terrace space.

The building offers full service amenities including a 24 hour doorman, live-in superintendent, fitness center, bicycle storage, refrigerated storage for deliveries, and private storage bins. Located just north of Mount Sinai Medical Center and steps from the Museum of the City of New York, the Conservatory Gardens, and Carnegie Hill's shops and restaurants, 1200 Fifth Avenue provides residents with access to some of Manhattan's most significant cultural institutions while maintaining the intimacy of a boutique condominium with only two residences per floor on most levels. The building is pet friendly on a case-by-case basis.
