TriBeCa Associates of which William Brodsky and Elliot Ingerman are principals are converting the former 16-story office building at 157 Chambers Street to 45 residential condominium apartments.

Steven F. Byrns of BKSK Architects is the architect.

The mid-block, tan-brick building has several setbacks and was erected in the early 1930s and designed by Victor Mayper, who was the architect of several commercial buildings in Lower Manhattan included 155 Sixth Avenue, 121 Varick Street, 160 Varick Street and the Maltz-Franklin Building.

TriBeCa Associates is also planning to build a 13-story hotel with 114 rooms on the site of a two-story commercial building at 128 Chambers Street. According to documents filed with the city, that project will be designed by Brennan Beer Gorman.

CityRealty.com's telephone calls to Mr. Brodsky and Mr. Byrns today were not returned.

An article by David Lombino in the November 27, 2006 edition of The New York Sun noted that many of the older commercial properties on Chambers Street are being converted to residential use, citing, among others, planned conversions at 87-9 Chambers Street, 88 Chambers Street, 92 Chambers Street, and renovations at 119, 122 and 148 Chambers Street.
