As The Spiral completes construction, see new development penthouses with equally awe-inspiring terraces and views

Bjarke Ingels Group designs like One High Line and VIA 57 WEST have utterly transformed their surrounding skylines, and The Spiral marks a new milestone as the firm’s first completed supertall. Construction is newly completed, but its soaring height and the terraces winding their way up the side have been apparent over the past few years.
Mr. Ingels has said of the project, “The Spiral punctuates the northern end of the High Line, and the linear park appears to carry through into the tower, forming an ascending ribbon of lively green spaces.” The green spaces were planted with drought- and wind-resistant plant species as well as trees that bloom in the wintertime two summers ago (h/t Dezeen) and create a “continuous green ribbon” around the 66-story building. The terraces are The Spiral’s most distinctive feature in the Far West Side skyline, and office workers in the tower, whose tenants include Pfizer, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, HSBC, and AllianceBernstein, are able to step outside onto them and take in spectacular city views.

The terrace access took on a whole new appreciation in the wake of the pandemic, but it was a key component of The Spiral when it was on the drawing board years before the first Covid case was reported. Indeed, at work or at home, there is nothing like stepping out onto a high-floor terrace and seeing an expansive cityscape spread before one's eyes. It can't help but generate energy and optimism for a busy day in New York. Many new developments have incorporated outdoor space into several units; here, like anywhere else in New York, the penthouse is likeliest to have private outdoor space.
