The Lightstone Group's controversial plan to demolish five tenement buildings at 112-120 East 11th Street to make way for a hotel is now a reality as a rendering of the potential 311-unit Moxy Hotel surfaces. The brand, which Marriott International launched in 2014, aims to serve the millennial crowd in urban areas. The official website declares "Moxy is a boutique hotel with the social heart of a hostel" with more than 40 hotels worldwide set to open in the next two years. This microhotel brand features a keyless entry, fast wifi, and 24/7 bar and grab and go service. Permits filed in late September by Jodi Stein of the Lightstone Group cite Stonehill and Taylor Architects as the designers.

The 13-story hotel will consist of 78,361 square feet of commercial space which means each room will be roughly 250 square feet, significantly less than the average size of other hotels. However, the brand's uprising, combined with its affordability and hostel-like environment might bring much-needed competition to airbnb. Plans also call for a lounge and restaurant on the cellar and first floor, with an accessory terrace. Other amenities include bike storage, a fitness center on the second floor and another restaurant on the top floor. Most of the floors will house 26 guest rooms. While traditional hotels boast luxury, the Moxy brand hopes to boast excitement in a non-traditional space. With Webster Hall right across the street and all the offerings of the East Village nightlife, they might deliver. Expected completion for the hotel is late 2018.

The Lightstone Group originally acquired six multi-family buildings from Pan Am Equities for $127 million. One of the buildings, 85 East 11th Street, will not be part of the hotel project. Other planned Moxy locations in NYC include Times Square, Midtown South, the Financial District and the Lower East Side.
