Last summer, Tribeca Citizen noted that local mainstay Ilya’s Barber Shop is looking for a new home following the sale of its building at 33 Lispenard Street. Demolition permits have not yet been filed but permits for a new seven-story building have. The new, 89-foot-tall building will have 845 square feet of retail at grade level, four full-floor units, and a duplex penthouse at the top.
Renderings by GF55, the architect of record, show a conventional-looking storefront and beautiful arched windows on the residential floors. The building’s height is not out of place, but it does bring an unmistakably glossy feel to a block of brick buildings. An offering plan has not yet been filed, but the apartments will undoubtedly command high prices: According to CityRealty listings, the median price of a Tribeca condo is $4.5 million.
