While construction is still in progress on the Maple East Residence at 918 East New York Avenue, the building has launched a lottery for its 16 affordable units. Its developer, The Bridge, is dedicated to providing a range of psychiatric rehabilitative services that include housing, and the new building will be a mixture of supportive and affordable housing.
New York residents earning 60% of the area median income are invited to apply for 10 one-bedrooms for $1,017/month and six two-bedrooms for $1,224/month. More details can be found at NYHousingSearch.gov, and applications can be requested by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Maple East New York Housing Application, P.O. Box 83, New York, NY 10035. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2018.
Thanks to a recent rezoning, the 66-unit, eight-story building will be the tallest on its residential block. However, the design by Edelman Sultan Knox Wood is more complementary than disruptive; its brick-patterned façade will reference the typical materials of the area. A full array of solar panels on the eighth floor will make it one of the block’s most environmentally friendly as well. Amenities will include a laundry room, backyard garden, indoor recreation room, bike room, and 24-hour security.
