Construction just started this past June on the new Robert A.M. Stern-designed condominium at 250 West 81st Street and already, sales are expected to launch this fall, according to the New York Times. And while modern architecture tends to gravitate towards curvaceous shapes and glassy facades, this Upper West Side building will stick to what the family-friendly neighborhood knows and loves - a classic exterior made up of brick and limestone but with a touch of contemporary flare. Alchemy Properties, the same developers behind The Woolworth Tower Residences, dished out $51M for the site last year.

Upon completion, which is expected in early 2019, Two Fifty West 81st will rise 18 stories tall with retail on the first two floors and 31 units above. Sales range from $3.7M for a two-bedroom residence to a whopping $15.75M for a five-bedroom penthouse. After all, this is the UWS.

A few renderings for the project were released a few days ago, giving us a first look of the whole facade and the building's interiors - which employ herringbone oak floors and custom wood cabinetry by Smallbone of Devizes. The living and dining room will be open concept and oversized windows will complete the spacious spread.

The condo might be going for a classic look but its amenities will knock the pre-war competition to the side. Two Fifty West 81st will boast 6,000 square feet of amenities that include a professional music studio for adults and children, sports court, golf simulator, fitness center, children's playroom, bike storage, and a common roof deck with a grill/outdoor kitchen. Oh, and of course, there will be a 24-hour attended lobby.
