After months of turmoil, it's natural to reflexively wish that everything would go back to normal. However, we are at a chance to not go back to exactly the way things were, but to shape a new normal. Little Island was conceived as a new public park, yet is emerging as proof of that. In 2014, Barry Diller and Hudson River Park Trust announced an imaginative approach to replacing the dilapidated Pier 55: Instead of building back exactly the way it was, the park known as Little Island would take shape through an undulating series of concrete pylons driven into the Hudson River bed. A walk past in the spring showed planting in progress on the fully installed pylons. More recently, a drone video saw the leaves on the recently planted trees changing color and the change of seasons play out on the Hudson River waterfront.
While we wait for Little Island to open to the public - estimated date is spring 2021 - there are several parks that allow New Yorkers to enjoy the changing fall colors without scheduling a day trip away. However, some residents are lucky enough to enjoy treetop views from their own living rooms or bedrooms. We take a look at listings all over New York with the best positioning to enjoy fall foliage.
