From May 8-14, 2023, the top contract signed in Manhattan took place at the Robert A.M. Stern-designed 15 Central Park West, where Residence #36D entered contract with an asking price of $26,500,000, a small reduction from when it was listed for $28 million in October 2022. The buyer has not been identified, but the family of prolific political cartoonist Ranan Lurie listed the home following his death in June 2022.
In a statement to Crain's New York Business, Mr. Lurie's daughter and the apartment's listing agent, Danielle Lurie of Compass, said, "My father replaced all the walls in the east wing of the home with glass so that you essentially step into Central Park immediately upon entering." The publication also notes that Mr. Lurie was the only owner of the apartment, having bought it from the sponsor for $11.5 million in 2008.

Among them was Penthouse A, a four-bedroom duplex with a massive private terrace that entered contract with a $17,500,000 ask in the second-highest contract of the past week. Residence #5A, a four-bedroom unit a few floors below, had the week's fifth-highest contract with a $9,995,000 asking price.

The top co-op contract and fourth-highest overall took place at 101 Central Park West, where the longtime home of former ABC World News Tonight anchor Peter Jennings entered contract asking $10,450,000. The contract comes a little over a month after Mr. Jennings' widow, Kaycee Freed Jennings, put it on the market. Ms. Jennings told The Wall Street Journal that she and Mr. Jennings hosted a number of book parties and benefits in their beautifully renovated apartment, and that its views of Central Park made it hard to part ways with it. It is in a prime Upper West Side location a short distance from the ABC News studio and Peter Jennings Way.
