Last year in Chelsea, the foundation was laid at 425 West 18th Street for a new rental building offering affordable units and now, the lottery has kicked off for a variety of income brackets. The 18-story building is between Tenth and Eleventh Avenue atop previously unused NYCHA land that was developed by Artimus. There will be no application or broker’s fee for any units in the new building, which is smoke-free. The exterior was designed by Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects.
Inside are 160 units in a mix of studio, 1 and 2 bedroom layouts which are reserved for households earning 50, 100, 160 and 165 percent of the area median income with prices ranging from $702/month for studios to $3,216/month for 2 bedrooms. Amenities include a laundry room with card operated machines, outdoor space on the first floor and rooftop, and bike storage.
