Last week, The Wall Street Journal announced that Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's estate had sold his penthouse and apartment on a lower floor (presumably a staff or guest unit) at 4 East 66th Street for a combined $101,000,000, or more than four times what Mr. Allen paid for the penthouse in 2011; information on the lower-level unit was not available. This sale breaks the previous record for the city's most expensive co-op, which was previously held by a $77.5 million apartment at the nearby 834 Fifth Avenue in 2015.
In a more modern Upper East Side building, almost exactly a year after the marquee penthouses at the top of Beckford Tower were unveiled, #PH30 has sold for $24,331,018. Like all the penthouses in the building, this spacious home features private elevator entry, a fireplace in the Great Room, an eat-in kitchen by Christopher Peacock, and a large private terrace overlooking Central Park. The sale comes a month after #PH29 entered contract with an asking price of $29,000,000, and #PH31 remains on the market for $18,495,000.
