The top sale of the past week took place at 80 Wooster Street, a loft warehouse turned residential cooperative that remains rich in original architectural details. Residence 7 closed for $18,500,000. The buyer conducted the transaction through a trust, and the seller is listed in public records as business executive Simon Joory.
But for all the appeal of converted industrial lofts, the white-glove cooperatives of upper Fifth Avenue retain their cachet: The second-highest sale was for Residence 2A, a three-bedroom home at the J.E.R. Carpenter-designed 920 Fifth Avenue that sold for $11,000,000. The sellers were listed in public records as Jan Vilcek, a scientist who received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation for his research on interferon, and his wife, Metropolitan Museum of Art curator-turned-trustee Marica Vilcek. The buyer is listed as media executive Jeffrey Bewkes.
The top condo sale and third-highest overall was Residence #15C at 378 West End Avenue, which sold for $10,200,000 in a small discount from the listing price of $10,500,000 when it entered contract earlier this summer. Public records list the buyer of the five-bedroom, four and a half-bath apartment as Lilian Stern, founder of investor relations firm Stern IR.
