Back in February, the former Starbucks CEO and Brooklyn-native Howard Schultz picked up what is still the priciest unit to date in the mega-development The Greenwich Lane. The four-bedroom spread boasts direct elevator access, custom lighting by Thomas O' Brien, and more than 1,600 square feet of private outdoor space - a stark contrast from the Canarsie housing projects he grew up in.
Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel / 443 Greenwich Street
This year proved to be great for 443 Greenwich Street, the new celebrity-magnet conversion in Tribeca. Back in March, celebrity power couple Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel signed a deal for a penthouse after receiving a hefty $7M discount off the original $27.5M price. The home spans 5,375 square feet - plenty of space for the couple's now 2-year old son, Silas. 443 Greenwich is known as a "paparazzi-proof" building which boasts plenty of privacy-focused amenities, including an interior courtyard, underground garage, and a porte-cochere. And of course, there are also plenty of luxury amenities like a 71-foot indoor pool and a fitness center with a Turkish steam bath.
Jon Bon Jovi / The Greenwich Lane
The Greenwich Lane has made it on this list again - this time with a rock star buyer. In September, Jon Bon Jovi scored a four-bedroom apartment in the LEED-certified development for nearly $19M. Just a few months before, he listed his other West Village apartment - a duplex penthouse in 150 Charles Street - for $17.25M. The price has since gone down to $15.95M.
Taylor Swift / 153 Franklin Street
Controversy seems to follow Taylor Swift, and real estate is no exception. It was rumored in 2015 that she had Sir Ian McKellen booted from the penthouse loft at The Sugar Loaf Building (155 Franklin Street) that she'd just bought for nearly $20M, and Orlando Bloom also claimed to have been driven from the same building as a result of Swift's fans. The pop singer made headlines again when it was reported in October that she bought the next-door townhouse at 153 Franklin Street for $18M. The home just so happens to be the one French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn stayed in while under house arrest in 2011 for the sexual assault and attempted rape of a hotel maid.
Roman Abramovich is best known as the Chelsea Football Club's owner, but he's also one of the world's richest people, with a net worth valued at $7.6B. And while Mayor de Blasio may not like it, the Russian-born billionaire has bought four properties on a landmarked Upper East Side block in order to create a mega-mansion. With the LPC now on board, three of the four lots (9-13 East 75th Street) will now be used for his future monstrous-sized home. Abramovich dropped a whopping $96M for the total assemblage.
Before the controversy surrounding his comments on Hollywood's sexual harassment scandal, Matt Damon flew under the radar - even when it came to his real estate purchase. According to people with knowledge of the deal, the actor went into contract on a $16.6M penthouse at the condo conversion The Standish, formerly the Standish Arms Hotel. If and when the sale closes, it will be the priciest residential sale ever in Brooklyn, taking the title from a $15.5M Cobble Hill townhouse sale made in 2015.
252 East 57th Street (Stribling)
Steve Madden, founder and former CEO of the famous shoe brand, dropped $12.2M on a five-bedroom spread at the 65-story Billionaires' Row tower designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. And with a 61st-floor location, you can bet Madden is enjoying those breathtaking north, east, and west exposures with Central Park and East River views. Like all residences in the impressive curved glass building, his unit's interiors were designed by Daniel Romualdez. Amenities include a gated porte cochere and automated parking garage, 75-foot pool, spa with hydrotherapy, fitness center with studios for spinning and yoga, billiards room, dog play space and grooming station, and a 70-foot terrace.

Trevor Noah / Stella Tower
Jon Stewart's successor Trevor Noah is living comfortably in NYC. The South African-born comedian stayed at a $15,000/month rental at Stella Tower before buying a 3,600-square-foot penthouse in the same building for $10M. The Ralph Walker-designed skyscraper is conveniently close to the 52nd Street and Eleventh Avenue studio where “The Daily Show” is filmed, making for an easy commute for the TV star.
Meg Ryan / 443 Greenwich Street
It was reported in June that the "When Harry Met Sally" star Meg Ryan would be joining other celebs like Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Jennifer Lawrence, and Harry Styles at 443 Greenwich Street. Her trust, Third World Dog, was listed at the buyer of a $9.39M, three-bedroom apartment in the Tribeca building. A self-professed real estate lover, Ryan told Architectural Digest, “I love renovating. I think it’s tied to living the actor’s life. As an actor, you are so rarely in control… But with decorating I am in control.”
Jake Gyllenhaal / 443 Greenwich Street
A week after Meg Ryan bought into the celeb favorite 443 Greenwich Street, Jake Gyllenhaal snatched up a 2,868-square-foot apartment in the same building for $8.63M. Some investigative reporting by TRD traced the LLC used for the purchase back to the same one listed when he bought his Hollywood Hills house back in 2005.
Rosie O'Donnell / Sterling Plaza
Almost two years after selling her Greenwich Village penthouse at 130 West 12th street, Rosie O'Donnell found a new NYC home at Midtown East's 255 East 49th Street. The $8M triplex penthouse features a black granite fireplace, a huge glass walled television in the master suite, a Guggenheim-inspired staircase, an indoor Swedish sauna, and a rooftop terrace with views of the East River, Empire and Chrysler Buildings. The sellers of the home bought it for just $4.37M in 2013.
Richard Serra / 173 Duane Street
Prolific sculptor Richard Serra has lived and worked in Tribeca's 173 Duane Street since the 1990s, and at various points, he and his wife purchased the first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the building. Only the second floor was left, until it was reported in June that Serra purchased the home, owned by artist Merrill Steiger, for $7M. He now has the whole building to himself.
Devonshire House (Sotheby's)
The Devonshire House is home to celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Amanda Seyfried, and as of November, Josh Charles. "The Good Wife" star purchased a three-bedroom home for $6.3M not long after he sold his condo at 42 East 12th Street for $3.75M. His new pad features a chef's kitchen with custom cabinetry and marble countertops, and a large formal dining. Building amenities include a full-time doorman, fitness center, children’s playroom, storage and cold storage, and a landscaped rooftop terrace.
Kristen Stewart / 1 Bond Street
Celebrities don't often go for fixer-uppers in a city full of luxury, move-in ready homes, but the potential-filled Noho artists' loft at 1 Bond Street must have caught Kristen Stewart's eye. The actress, best known for the "Twilight Saga" films, purchased the 3,000-square-foot home for $5.64M in October. Her apartment boasts three exposures, Corinthian columns, and a highly customizable floor plan. The Robbins & Appleton building is an 1877 landmark that was converted to condominiums in 1988.

While celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Bruce Willis recently left the Art Deco landmark Eldorado building, Michael C. Hall has just snagged a recently-renovated two-bedroom unit there for $4.3M. The "Dexter" and "Six Feet Under" star also owns another two-bedroom apartment in the Greenwich Lane complex, which was on the rental market last year asking $15,000/month. The Eldorado's white glove amenities include a full-time doorman, concierge, fitness center, children's playroom, basketball court, and an on-site garage.
