Arker Companies’ new affordable housing development is underway in Chelsea at 211 West 28th Street. A new rendering reveals a 14-story slender, brick building that will tower above its neighboring structures, complete with large windows and an entrance marquee. Once construction is complete, the building will host 37 residences, all of which will be affordable.
The affordable housing development firm purchased the site along with Chelsea Leaf South Housing Development Fund in February 2015 from Sam Wansam for $15.2 million. Their plan is to expand the existing, six-story building into a 24,600-square-foot structure with three apartments on floors two through twelve, two apartments on the thirteenth and fourteenth floors, and ground floor retail. So far, the amenity list includes an elevator, bicycle storage, private storage, and a laundry room.
