Rendering of 200 Amsterdam Avenue crown via Elkus Manfredi Architects
As construction progresses at the future tallest tower on the Upper West Side, 200 Amsterdam Avenue, new renderings of the 51-story, 112-unit skyscraper have been revealed. In the design by Elkus Manfredi Architects, the exterior will feature glazed aluminum curtain walls and alternating lines of masonry and glass. In a black granite and limestone base, two-story windows will be framed by backlit grills.
The new images have not been enough to win over community groups, elected officials, or industry experts: The Real Deal describes the design as “distinctive, but hardly revolutionary,” and Council member Helen Rosenthal has joined one of the two separate community groups that have filed appeals with the city board to stop the project.

However, developer SJP Properties is also working on the building in the face of something harder to ignore than local opposition: market realities. Sales in the neighborhood are down slightly as compared to this time last year, and the average price per square foot of West Side condos has dropped about 18% in the past year.
