Throughout its development and construction, Long Island City’s Skyline Tower has been touted as the tallest New York City building outside Manhattan. As of today, that milestone has come to pass: Construction isn’t even all the way up yet – 63 floors out of a planned 67 – but it has already cast former contenders Citigroup Building and Tower 28 in shadow. Upon completion, Skyline Tower will soar 762 feet high with a sleek design by Hill West requiring 358,538 square feet of translucent glass. To put things in perspective, this is enough to cover six football fields.

The height record is far from the only one Skyline Tower has broken. Its projected sellout of $1.067 billion broke the Queens record even without including penthouses, and it looks well on the way to meeting that. Last month, an executive from Modern Spaces, which is handling the sales and marketing, reported that it has already sold $223 million in inventory, or the equivalent of 25 percent of the 802 units. The in-contract listings range in price from $640K to $2.365 million.

Skyline Tower saw an enormous influx of interest when Amazon planned its second headquarters for Long Island City, a decision that was surely influenced by the area’s quick, seamless access to Manhattan. Amazon may have pulled out, but Skyline Tower remains on buyers’ radars and committed to making the commute even easier: It has committed approximately $17 million for a new entrance to the Court Square station serving the E, G, M, and 7 subway lines at the base of the building.
