Construction continues at the site of a forthcoming 110,000 square-foot affordable rental building at 2030 Creston Avenue in the Mount Hope neighborhood of the Bronx. Developing the 18,395 property on a former parking lot is Schur Management Company. Plans for the mixed-use project were filed last year, and completion of the building is expected for September 2017. The development is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s affordable housing plan, which plans to preserve and develop 200,000 affordable apartments over the next 10 years.
The Creston Apartments will hold 114 residential units, 11,234 square feet of retail space, 908 square feet of community space, and an underground parking garage for 40 cars. The 11-story building will have a mix of layouts ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. It will also have a study center and computer lab, a fully-equipped laundry room, and a landscaped outdoor recreation area. Aufgang Architects is designing the project.
When the housing lottery launches, the developers have said that they will provide a 50% preference to local residents. The building is conveniently located near the B and D subway lines, and the Bx40, and Bx42 buses. All partners involved hope the development will increase the quality of living in the neighborhood, and perhaps provide further economic development opportunities in the area.
