5 Riverside Drive is a 20-story Art Deco co-operative building situated at the southeast corner of 73rd Street and Riverside Drive. Designed by the architectural firm Boak & Paris for Simon Brothers in 1937 and converted to co-ops in 1965, the building houses 109 apartments.
Inside, the lobby reflects the building’s Art Deco heritage with wood-paneled walls, a concierge desk, and a fireplace, creating a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. Apartments are thoughtfully designed, with features such as sunken living rooms that reflect the building's period charm.
Residents benefit from a range of amenities, including a full-time doorman, a live-in superintendent, on-site laundry facilities, and a bicycle storage room.
Its distinctive asymmetrical façade and classic Art Deco detailing make it a standout among the neighborhood's pre-war buildings. The red-brick structure features a fluted limestone base with an elevated main entrance framed by a decorative surround, complete with a broken pediment enclosing a large urn and green marble panels with integrated lighting. The second-story windows are accented by limestone surrounds arranged asymmetrically, adding a unique charm complemented by sidewalk landscaping.
The building's main façade includes three central projecting limestone piers with spandrels that terminate at the third story, culminating in intricate limestone caps that rise above the 15th floor. Additional piers at the corners of the building provide balance, while the 16th-floor roofline introduces angled limestone trim, leading to a two-story setback. The design is further enhanced by a 19th-floor angled limestone parapet and a discreet water tank enclosure with decorative piers. Corner windows on 73rd Street add architectural interest, while some windows feature air-conditioning units that integrate unobtrusively into the façade.

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.
By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
