The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for a new 6-story building at 52 Wooster Street in SoHo with a split personality facade design. The building, completed in 2015, features four large residential condominium units with unique design elements to maximize natural light and includes a four-bedroom duplex on the top two floors.
52 Wooster Street is a six story boutique condominium at the corner of Wooster and Broome Streets in SoHo. Its two tone façade combines a steel corner and light gray metal grid with red masonry, a design by Arpad Baksa revised during the Landmarks Preservation Commission review of the site in 2006.
Developed by Continental Ventures and completed in 2016, the building contains just four residences, with interiors by GRADE. The 11 foot lobby uses Supai limestone, stainless steel reveals, and Fior Di Bosco marble flooring. A virtual doorman, private storage, package storage, and a part time superintendent serve the condominium.
The residences are organized as full floor lofts with ceiling heights above 11 feet, large windows, 24 foot great rooms, open kitchens with islands, marble enclosed fireplaces, and small rear terraces. The top two floors form a four bedroom duplex, giving the building a distinct vertical layout alongside its three bedroom homes. Kitchens use custom lacquer and glass cabinetry, high end appliances, and marble counters, while wide plank white oak flooring and in unit laundry recur among the apartments.
Set on a cobblestoned block in the SoHo Cast Iron Historic District, 52 Wooster is surrounded by restaurants, galleries, boutiques, and downtown retail, with the Hudson River waterfront a short walk away. The building has been associated with Jim Payne.
