The Chelsea,
160 West 24th Street

160 West 24th Street Location Map

Overview of The Chelsea at 160 West 24th Street

The Chelsea is a 19 story, 204 apartment rental at 160 West 24th Street whose present scale reflects an unusual vertical expansion. The Lazar Group completed the original building in 1987, then enlarged it in 1998 while tenants remained in residence, relying on a foundation constructed to support future floors. Architect Herbert L. Mandel used beige stucco and dark brown trim to unify the original structure and addition.

The building contains roughly 50 floor plan types, with ceiling heights generally ranging from nine to ten feet. Repeated layouts pair entry foyers with enclosed pass through kitchens and long living and dining rooms, while renovated apartments tend toward open plans and larger living areas. Apartments are nonsmoking, and some are offered as furnished rentals with flexible lease lengths.

A 24 hour doorman and concierge staff the attended lobby, and the building also has a ground floor fitness center, live-in superintendent, indoor garage, package service, and coinless laundry facilities. An 8th floor sunroom and media lounge supplement two roof decks with seating, grills, and kitchen facilities. The property is pet friendly.

Whole Foods is diagonally across Seventh Avenue, while Madison Square Park and the Flatiron District are several blocks east. The 1 train stops at 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue; the C and E trains stop at 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue; and the F and M trains and PATH stop at 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue.
