The American Tract Society Building at 150 Nassau Street is a designated New York City landmark built in 1896 and designed by architect R.H. Robertson. One of the city's earliest steel skeletal frame skyscrapers, the 23 story building combines Romanesque and Renaissance Revival styles with rusticated gray granite, Roman brick, and buff terra cotta cladding. Notable architectural details include a three story arcade topped with winged caryatids, deeply inset windows, and ornamental lions' heads on the stringcourses. Originally constructed for the American Tract Society, one of the nation's largest religious publishers before the Civil War, the building was lost to foreclosure in 1914 and briefly housed the New York Sun during the neighborhood's heyday as the center of newspaper publishing.
Converted to 125 condominiums in 2003, the building offers 24 hour doorman and concierge service, a fitness center, on-site parking, and a landscaped rooftop deck with panoramic views of the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges, the East River, and Lower Manhattan. The building features laundry facilities on each floor and welcomes pets. Residences typically feature 10 to 11.5 foot ceilings, oversized windows, and solid hardwood floors. Many units include chef's kitchens outfitted with Sub-Zero refrigerators, Miele dishwashers, and Viking or Wolf ranges, along with custom walnut or cherry cabinetry and granite or marble countertops.
The building's 125 units range from loft like studios to expansive five to six bedroom residences approaching 4,200 square feet, including a duplex penthouse. Some apartments feature marble bathrooms with Carrara or Calacatta stone, gas fireplaces, and in-unit washers and dryers. Located directly across from City Hall Park at the intersection of the Financial District, Tribeca, and City Hall, the building provides immediate access to nearly every major subway line and is surrounded by premier dining and shopping destinations including the Beekman Hotel, Eataly, Whole Foods, and the redeveloped South Street Seaport.
