One of the first rental residences to open at the Essex Crossing mega-development in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the Rollins gets its name from famed jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins, who once lived on the site. The 16-story mixed-use building was designed by well-known architects Beyer Blinder Belle. Modern apartments feature interior design by K & Co. with 10-foot ceilings, white oak flooring, ceilings up to 10 feet high, spacious walk-in closets and double-pane windows with views of the Empire State Building and Williamsburg Bridge. The amenities, though, are the real news. Residential benefits include a 12th floor lounge and elevated garden terrace with grills and a dining area, a fitness center with Peloton bikes and on-demand classes and a residents’ lounge with a fireplace, wet bar, billiards table, shuffleboard, media room, and private dining room. There’s also an attended lobby, a concierge, a children’s playroom, a pet spa and a bike room. Nearby is the bazaar-esque Market Line food marketplace; within the development itself are a Target and a Trader Joe’s, a public park and and a playground. Nearby are neighborhood favorites old and new including the Hester Street Fair, Ivan Ramen, Doughnut Plant and Russ & Daughters Cafe. The F subway stops nearby.
